Today is her 1st day of chemo and she is so brave! I'm more nervous than she is. Because it's her first day, it's four hours of infusion, 2 hours of saline and 2 hours of the drugs/poison. Norm is going to stay with her throughout. Tomorrow and Wed will only be an hour of infusion. Expected side effects - nausea, constipation and fatigue. We'll see how she does. Dr Marcoux and his nurse are really nice. Very compassionate and supportive. No complaints so far about Dana Farber!

Poor mom - going to all of these doctor's appointments! Here's a peek at her exhausting schedule:
- Wed 8/3 Tufts: Their diagnosis - possibility of surgery and chemo? - Thu 8/4 Brigham & Women's: Not a candidate for surgery, straight to chemo! - Fri 8/5 Brigham & Women's: PET scan - Thu 8/11 Brigham & Women's: Biopsy - Thu 8/18 Dana Farber Cancer Institute: Meet with oncology team, Dr. Paul Marcoux, Medical Director of the Thoracic Dept. and his nurse I feel assured that my mom has the best possible medical team. So it's stage 4 small cell lung cancer. Prognosis is not good, on average people live to a year. The cancer always comes back and will eventually spread to the brain. It's so hard to hear especially when it's repeated again by the interpreter in Chinese. I couldn't hold back the tears as I had a list of questions to ask the doctor. This bites!!! Yet my mom is still the strong one. |

AuthorI'm fortunate enough to have an awesome job at a biotech company. I'm also blessed to have the bestest of friends in the world - from Castle Square, ATASK, and Jamie Club - you know who you are! Last but not least, I have a family that are always there for me. Categories |
